Still new to this kind of razor but enjoy the shave it gives me and I like the feel and build.

Excellent well made razor. No cuts!

Good nicely balanced razor–I like the long handle. Seems very well made ( the thread on my Edwin Jagger gave up after 4 or 5 years–this one looks like it will last forever.) Shaves closely and even with Feathers I haven’t had a nick yet. I like it a lot.Shave Lounge got it to me very quickly too.

I have been wet shaving for many years (I’m 60 next birthday) and used various cartridge razor systems in that time. My most recent set up was beginning to cost around £10.00 per carton of replacement cartridges, so I decided to go “retro”. As a child, I remember watching my father using a double-edged safety razor, so I thought I’d acquire one for myself. I purchased a Muhle R89 Grande, largely as a result of reading the many favourable reviews on the various websites. I also purchased a selection of Proraso shaving products. I have been surprised at how much better shave I have been getting. I had a few small cuts the first few times I used it, but as my techniqe has improved the number of small nicks has diminished!! The razor appears to be very well made as one would expect from a reputable German company – much better than the cheap/plastic handles that come with the cartridge systems. The only drawback is that it takes a little bit longer to go through my morning ritual.

This is my first DE safety razor and i’m very impressed with it, Although i’ve got nothing to compare it to it is a lot less aggressive then my Dovo shavette. The comb stops anyone nicking themselves too badly, i’d recommend it to any other beginning DE shavers. The longer handle is decent and i think i’d probably have issues with a shorter one.
A well made and quality razor.

A superb razor – effectively a long-handled version of the Edwin Jagger staple for anyone who doesn’t like it’s stubby handle. Great value too – you’ve got to love German manufacture

Best razor I’ve ever used, feels solid, well balanced, beautifully constructed and will probably last forever

From Steve N
This is an excellent choice for those looking for a high quality finished razor that gives a close shave with ease.
The extra weight took some time to get used to but now it feels just right, this will be my regular razor for the long haul

I bought my Muhle R89 Grande a few weeks ago and i can honestly say it has been fantastic, i added the Muhle R41 head from the shave lounge a while later as i was that impressed with the closed comb R89 i wanted to try the R41 open comb head and these two heads for me are the perfect match, i really don’t think that you can do better.
The R89 gives a very close smooth shave while also being easy on the skin, when i have about three days beard growth i put the R41 head on the Muhle Grande handle and it powers through it, brilliant, what more do you need ?

R89 Grande gives and excellent shave and is a very well made piece of kit. I love the way that when you twist the shaft you get a rotating helix effect. Brilliant.

I’ve been shaving for over 30 years and recently returned to safety razors. I found my Grandad’s old Gillette Tech and Myatt OC razors and while I could get a good shave using them I found them a bit small to use easily (I’m a pretty big guy with large paws).
I did a bit of research and thought the Muhle R89 grande was the answer – I wasn’t wrong. It’s precision engineering and just oozes quality. The finish is flawless, it has a good weight to it and just ‘feels right’. The head bends the blade more than my older razors so the angle of the cutting edge is easier to find – I’ve had smooth and very close shaves with the supplied Derby blade and free sample Shark blade. A superb razor.

This is exquisite, and a joy to hold. The finish is flawless and it feels like it will last forever. It unscrews and screws with a very reassuring, reliable mechanism and I have no doubt I will enjoy using this for years to come. It is beautifully balanced, (I think the long handle was a good decision) and gives a close shave.
Thanks also for your excellent customer service which allowed my razor to arrive the morning after I placed the order.

The main reason I bought this razor was because I heard its build quality and finish is exceptional, and I have to say, it lives up to its reputation. I very nearly opted for a Merkur 38C, but I am very glad I chose this. It is lighter than expected, which I like because it allows me more control, however it has enough weight to shave very well. It fits together perfectly every time I replace the blade, and unscrews very easily unlike my Merkur 1904.
I had to adjust my technique coming from my previous razors, so the first few shaves were unspectacular, but once I got used to it it it gives me an excellent shave every time. I have used it with a Wilkinson Sword Hydro 3 shaving gel, Wilkinson Sword shaving soap (blue bowl), and Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood shaving cream with the included Derby blade. Each give me an excellent shave. This is now the main razor I use, giving me a closer shave than my Merkur 1904, and a much less aggressive shave than my Wilkinson Sword Classic.
